Throughout the article, re-inhabitation portrays the community’s interaction and connection with environment and place. I remember in one of my classes last semester, we talked about individuals from the indigenous community and how they find the importance of home and how they connect with their place. The article discusses the importance of relationship with the environment and how the indigenous community values the place that they live in. The article suggests the historical background of indigenous community. History is portrayed as the foundation of knowledge or the resource of knowledge and how knowledge is distributed from generation to generation. On the other hand, decolonization is expressed as a removal of traditional beliefs and values that the indigenous community has. In the article, decolonizing also portrays the idea of using a different dialogue when referring to the place to slowly withdraw the importance, values, and meaning of connecting to the land.
In adapting the ideas and criteria of the meaning of place, I would have the students engage into activities such as making them draw a place where they grew up with to remember the importance of home and also explain to them the values and meaning that lies behind it. I would also suggest ideas on how they could connect to the land where they come from.
