Hey Guys, 

I just had my field experience a few days ago and things were a bit different from last week. I honestly thought that every week would be the same as from their routine. But every week seems to be different because they would have special guest or more so a mystery reader for the day.

 

Since Halloween is coming up soon, the kindergartens had a special speaker from the Regina Police that instructs them how to trick or treat safely. Telling them that their costumes should be light in color and something that is easy to see in the dark and also giving instructions when a random stranger gives them homemade cookies; that the candies they will be getting from strangers should be in a package.  There had been reports from the Regina Police about problems during Halloween they just want to make sure the kids are safe when trick or treating.

 

My co-operating teacher also mentioned about school administration that we should be prepared for our future administrator. There had been minor issues with the school (the one I am assigned to) regarding administrator. They could be someone who we can work with easily or someone that is a bit complicated to work with. She told us to know how to stand on what you believe because some of them have their own opinion and might not let you speak about your opinions.

 

Getting to know the student’s personalities help the teacher know how to discipline them and how they learn in class. My cooperating teacher knows that the kindergartens can easily learn through songs. She uses songs to help them learn the alphabets, what month it is, what day of the week, what day of the month, and also it helps them to be silent. Learning from other teachers is a great resource on how they can teach the students better. One of the things my cooperating teacher mentioned was the hardest is making ideas from scratch but with experience it will eventually flow. It takes time and have to put the effort for your own growth and for the student’s growth as well.

 

Overall, my experience in my third week helped me realized what I am missing and what I need to practice within myself. I am still in progress of learning and growing but I do hope in time I would have less to fix. I noticed that I need to act as a teacher more. My first and second field experience was a bit difficult for me because I have my mind set on certain things that I want to change right away but I realized that it takes time to build a habit.
