Week One

The school that I am assigned to was George School with kindergartens. My partner and I came in Thursday afternoon.  When we came, the students were still in their lunch break. As we wait for the students to return, our co-operating teacher explained to us how their day goes. After lunch, the students have 15 minutes of rest with soaking instrumental music to get their mind at ease. Something to help them be on track again (sometimes they can be too hyper after lunch). As they go on through their day, the students have a meeting that talks about what day it is, the weather, and other fun stuff.  After meeting, they would go to the library and get books to read at home, then have gym. After gym they would get 15 minutes of snack time and then circle sharing about their day.

The classroom looks little bit messy but it is normal for kindergartens since they don’t know a lot  about cleaning. The students are well behave and properly trained although there are a few that needs reminder every once in a while. Even though they have their routine every week, most students build up the habit while the others are on the process of knowing what the routines are. The classroom is a bit different from what I had when I was in kindergarten. The way they teach the students in Canada is different from the Philippines. In the Philippines, as a kindergarten, we would go to school everyday for 6 hours unlike in here the kindergartens only have two school days in a week.(they probably changed it by now) As for the classroom, it has enough space for everybody it is not too small nor too big for them. I think there are about 15 kindergartens or so (not sure). But dealing with kindergartens can be stressful. I’m just thankful that they are all nice and they actually listen to the teacher.

Getting along with the students was easy but once I start to see attitude in them it is quite a challenge. Playing games and getting involved with the students was fun and it is also a way of getting to know them. The teacher’s strategy involves a repetition of activities. Once the student starts to develop their skills it becomes easier for the teacher to go on through her day. Also, from what I noticed, organization and planning is a key. The co-ordinating teacher has her schedule fixed for the students throughout the day. I actually can’t wait to go back and be with them. they also have a field trip coming up somewhere within the month of October. So excited to tell you guys all about it.
