Week Four

Hey guys,

So I just had my field experience this afternoon and I must say that everything went well. The kindergartens and I are getting along. I had an encounter with a kindergarten that was really mad to the point that he has no control over his anger. Thankfully, I was able to talk to him and make him calm down. At the beginning of the afternoon Ms. Kerster had an evaluation with the kindergarten one by one so my partner and I had a chance to teach the kindergartens for the first 30 minutes. We were told to help them figure out what day of the month, the month, the day of the week, and the type of weather they have for the day.

In terms of diversity, I noticed that the students have unity. Despite of their differences in race, personality, and character they would help each other out. There was one kindergarten that is not allowed to do Halloween because of his religion and told the teachers to not participate him in any activities related to Halloween. Every time they did an activity, Ms. Kerster would let him do another activity that is not related to Halloween but would still be in the group so he would not feel left out.

Diversity that are not visible would be how they are treated at home. Some kindergarten can have problem at home but when at school that kid could be pretending that he/she is okay. It can also show on how they adapt and learn things. Some of them learn quickly than others while the rest takes a while and needs a reminder of what to do. Ms. Kerster mentioned that when giving instruction to them, it can either be a step by step process or they can do it without the instruction. It really depends on the kid.

Ms. Kerster has a way of evaluating her students on how well they will listen to her and how well they interpret what she is saying. Just like what we did earlier, the kindergartens get to paint poppy for remembrance day. She has given them instruction and told my partner and I to not correct the kindergartens because by this she is assessing them on how well they are learning. Most did a fantastic job in painting while the others who were not listening did an okay job.
